Another "Should have had a Byrna" moment

Obviously this man was suffering from a mental health condition and needed help. Instead of helping him as they should ... they shot and killed him instead.

First, he is trying to dodge cars, been there done that, it is a cry for help to stop the mental pain he is suffering; if you don't get it, you are not alone, but there are plenty of us who completely understand and/or have been in those shoes.

Second, he is scared and doesn't know what to do or how to calm the impules in his brain that are surging causing the mental pain.

Third, he grabs a weapon, not necessarily to harm police but to give himself space. He needed help but it was a classic case of "Suicide by cop" and this happens all too often.

We were not there but I can't help but think that there was another way to handle the situation than to resort to lethal force. There is way too much Mental Health issues in our society today and Suicide by Cop is not a solution, or any decent humane way to deal with Mental Health.

Man shot, killed by police inside Southern California Home Depot store

Police in Fontana shot and killed a man Monday night inside a Home Depot store, authorities confirmed to KTLA.

At around 6:20 p.m., officers with the Fontana Police Department responded to reports of a man running in the roadway on Santa Ana Avenue, near Sierra Avenue, who was trying to get hit by cars, police said.

When officers arrived at the scene, the suspect ran into the nearby Home Depot where police say he armed himself with an “edged weapon” and officers opened fire.

It is unclear if the store was evacuated before police fired on the man or if employees and customers were forced to run for cover during the incident.
